treatments laser hair removal

What is laser hair removal?

A procedure to permanently reduce hair growth in a particular area using light and laser based technology. Light (energy) is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) found in the hair which causes a build up of heat in turn destroying the cells of the hair follicle.

Mutiple treatments are required to ensure long-term hair reduction, depending on the hair type and skin colour. Best results are seen on coarse, dark hair and light skin.

Using Cutera’s Nd:Yag 1064nm laser and Prowave 770nm IPL device, emitting the most versatile wavelengths for hair removal, we are able to treat a wide range of skin types safely and effectively. Both devices have a built in cooling system and tip to ensure epidermal protection and comfort during the procedure.

Additional Information You Should Know

Although the procedure is not pain free, only a mild level of discomfort may be experienced. Topical numbing creams are safe to use prior to the procedure.

Typically numerous sessions are required, the number of sessions depending on the hair colour, skin type and area of the body being treated (facial hair growth is often directly influenced by hormone activity in the body and may not respond as well, thus requiring more frequent treatments).

Six to eight week intervals are required between sessions.
Do not wax, pluck, thread or use depilatory creams on the area being treated between sessions.

Avoid sun exposure on the area being treated between sessions.

treatments laser genesis

The Genesis Concept

This non-ablative laser procedure uses the 1064nm Nd:YAG laser, to heat the upper layers of the dermis (the papillary dermis) to effectively stimulate the production of new collagen.

Recommended for all skin types, this treatment safely and discretely treats conditions associated with premature ageing – fine lines and wrinkles, microblood vessels, uneven skin texture, open pores and scarring. The procedure is known to help improve the symptoms of Rosacea but cannot cure the symptoms, as Rosacea is a chronic condition that requires prescription treatment.

The procedure has been described as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming sensation as the hand piece is moved back and forth about 2cm above your skin. The procedure is pain-free, therefore no anesthetic cream or ice is required prior to the procedure.

Although few side effects have been reported, the most common is slight redness, which will disappear within a few hours of having the treatment. You can return immediately to normal daily activities, ensuring the application of sunscreen if you are participating in outdoor activities.

The individual treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments is dramatic. On average, a series of approximately 5 treatments are needed for sufficient results, spaced 6 weeks apart.

treatments titan

The Concept of the Non-Surgical Facelift

Titan® is a non-surgical procedure that utilizes an infrared light to create a gentle, sustained heating in the deep dermal layers of the skin, causing existing collagen fibers to contract and stimulating the production of new collagen fibers.

The hand piece delivers 5 to 7 second pulses to the dermis, creating the even distribution of heat in the dermis, followed by immediate epidermal cooling to protect the top layers of the epidermis.

The procedure stimulates long-term collagen formation, improving the appearance of wrinkles and laxity (loss of elasticity), resulting in tightened, lifted and more youthful skin.

Although few side effects have been reported, the most common is slight redness, which will disappear within a few hours of having the treatment. You can return immediately to normal daily activities, ensuring the application of sunscreen if you are participating in outdoor activities.

treatments limelight

The LimeLight Concept

LimeLight™ is a new, non-invasive approach to skin rejuvenation using light based technology designed to combat age spots, freckles, sun damage, diffused redness and surface telangiectasia (micro broken blood vessels).

Using the medical grade, non-invasive IPL device, the treatment can be customized for different skin types and concerns and is ideal for any part of the face, neck and décolletage. When treating sun damage, freckles and age spots, the excess pigment is heated causing it to be broken down and reabsorbed and eliminated by the body’s own immune cycle. When treating telangiectasia (micro broken blood vessels) and permanently dilated surface vessels, the heating action destroys the vessels walls, allowing for new micro vessels to be formed.

Immediately post procedure, the brown spots will darken and your skin may appear slightly red and within one to two weeks the spots will flake off naturally. The blood vessels will darken in colour and within a period of two to three weeks, will be reabsorbed.

Typically two to three treatments are required for sufficient results, spaced four weeks apart. Additional treatments may be required when treating excessively high contrast (dark brown) spots and sun damage.

Although the treatment is not pain-free – it is described as a mild pinching/stinging sensation, no anesthetic cream or pain medication is required prior to the procedure.

treatments microneedling

The Dermaroller® Concept

The Dermaroller®, a surgical stainless steel device containing 192 needles varying from 0.5mm -1.5mm in length is used to perform the Microneedling procedure. Microneedling is a form of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) in which the body’s self-healing mechanisms are utilized. The procedure aims to create a controlled injury in the dermis of the skin, thereby stimulating the wound-healing process. Fibroblasts (collagen producing cells) migrate to the area of injury and begin to synthesize new layers of collagen and elastin fibers (neo-collagenisis) as well as new blood capillaries (neo-angiogenesis) for an improved blood supply in the treated area.
In addition to CIT, Microneedling creates channels that allow for more affective product penetration directly after the procedure.

The Effects

Microneedling improves the thickness of the dermis and epidermis, thereby improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Scarring, especially acne scarring can be greatly improved as the hyperkeratinized skin is softened and new collagen produced can elevate the depressed appearance of scar tissue.

Post Microneedling Care

Light flaking, tightness and dryness are common reactions to the Microneedling procedure. The treated area will be slightly red and inflamed but these symptoms will subside 24-48 hours post treatment.

The Results

The Microneedling needs to be performed as a series of approximately 5 treatments, spaced 6-8 weeks apart. The result will be noticeable with a single treatment, however the process of collagen formation typically takes up to 12 weeks, therefore best results are seen 12 weeks post treatment.

treatments peels

The Concept of Chemical Peeling

A chemical peel is a procedure in which the superficial layers of the epidermis are removed to increase the cell turnover rate, thereby bringing new skin cells to the surface, revealing a more radiant complexion.

Chemical peels vary in acid, strength and pH. Once your particular skin concern is established, the best-suited peel will be chosen for your skin.

The Effects

Chemical peels can treat a variety of concerns such as; a thickened epidermis (coarse in texture and dull in complexion), sun and hormone induced hyperpigmentation, superficial lines and wrinkles, mild acne and acne scarring.

Chemical peels need to be performed as a series of approximately 5 treatments, spaced 2 – 4 weeks apart to ensure sufficient results. Depending of the strength of the peel used, minimal discomfort, downtime and infrequent complications can be expected.

AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)

AHA’s are considered the lightest chemical peel solution, are water-soluble, have a low pH and are derived from natural ingredients such as glycolic acid (derived from sugar cane) and lactic acid (derived from milk). AHA’s aid in the resurfacing of the epidermis, improving coarse texture, dull complexion and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

BHA’s (Beta Hydroxy Acids)

BHA’s, such as salicylic acid are considered more aggressive chemical peel solutions in comparison to AHA’s. The lipid-soluble and low pH solutions have a degreasing effect, a great option for oily and acne skin types. First time BHA peel users can expect light flaking of the epidermis as there will generally be a greater build up of dead skin cells prior to the procedure.

Post Peel Care

It is important to remember that a chemical peel disrupts the skins protective barrier after the treatment has been performed for approximately 5 days. Thereby making the skin susceptible to excess water loss, infection and sun damage. It is vital to ensure the appropriate home care procedures are followed and that the area treated is not exposed to the sun without sun protection.
